This Thanksgiving Turkey Balance activity is a fun and active way for little ones to get moving while enjoying a holiday-themed challenge. I came up with this idea after my son’s physical therapy sessions, where he does balance and coordination exercises. He was so inspired by those activities that now he calls this the “PT Turkey,” and he loves to take on the challenge of balancing along a “path” on the floor.
In this activity, kids can channel their energy by balancing on a taped line on the floor that represents the turkey’s feathers. It’s a simple setup that only takes a few minutes, but it provides a lot of engagement and laughs along the way!
This activity is perfect for kids who need to get their wiggles out or who enjoy a physical challenge. It’s easy to set up and adjust based on your child’s age or skill level. Whether you’re looking for a fun break during the day, a Thanksgiving-themed game, or even a new family tradition, this “PT Turkey” activity is a great way to keep little ones active and engaged during the holiday season.

Materials
- Turkey printable (scroll down to get the free download)
- Scissors
- Invisible tape
- Masking tape (or any colorful tape you have on hand)
- Feathers
If you don’t have masking tape, you can use any tape that’s visible on the floor – I used electrical tape since it has a bold color and stands out well for this activity. Just be sure to use something that your kids can easily see as they walk along. For the feathers, we used a pack from Amazon, which came with plenty of colors and worked perfectly for adding to the turkey and the balancing line.
How to Set Up the Turkey Balancing Activity

- Print out the turkey outline – Scroll down to get the download for free, then print it out.
- Cut out the turkey – Once the turkey is printed, carefully cut around its edges.
- Tape the turkey to the floor – Choose a spot with plenty of open space, so kids have room to balance and walk around.
- Create balancing lines – Place strips of masking tape on the floor that extend outward from the turkey. We used five pieces of tape to create different paths for balancing.
- Add feathers to the balancing lines – Tape down some feathers along each path and scatter a few loose feathers around the floor for extra fun. Kids can interact with both the taped and loose feathers as they practice balancing.
This simple setup makes for a fun, physical activity that kids will love, especially with the feathers to add a playful, festive touch!
Fun Variations for the Turkey Balancing Activity

- Add a Balance Challenge – Encourage kids to balance a feather on their head or shoulder while walking the line. This adds an extra challenge and helps improve balance and body awareness.
- Obstacle Course Addition – Create an entire obstacle course around the turkey! Include hopping over pillows, crawling under tables, or stepping over low hurdles before reaching the turkey and balancing along the lines. This adds a bit more physical play and keeps kids engaged for longer.
- Feather Collection – Scatter loose feathers around the room and ask kids to pick up one feather at a time and bring it back to the turkey while staying on the balancing line. This is a great way to work on focus and coordination as they go back and forth.
- Instead of laying down straight lines, try creating different paths with the tape to add variety and challenge! Make zigzag patterns, curvy lines, or even loops for kids to balance along.
