Materials Needed

  • FREE Pumpkin outline printable (scroll down for the free download!)
  • Contact paper
  • Scissors
  • Materials to decorate: pom poms, tissue paper, sequins, leaves, glitter, etc.

You can get creative with whatever craft supplies you have on hand! The variety of materials gives kids the chance to explore different textures and colors as they decorate their pumpkin.

How to Make the Pumpkin Craft

Step 1: First, download the free pumpkin outline by scrolling down and entering your email to get the printable for free. Once you have the download, print it out on regular paper or cardstock.

Step 2: Carefully cut out the inside of the pumpkin, leaving just the outline of the shape intact.

Step 3: Apply a sheet of contact paper to the back of the pumpkin outline so the sticky side is facing through the cut-out pumpkin.

Step 4: Let your kids decorate the sticky side of the pumpkin! They can use anything you have on hand like pom poms, tissue paper, sequins, glitter, leaves, or other craft supplies. The possibilities are endless, and it’s a fun, creative way for kids to design their own pumpkin!

What to Use If You Don’t Have Contact Paper

If you don’t have contact paper on hand, packing tape is a great alternative! Here’s how you can use it for your pumpkin craft:

Simply cover the back of the pumpkin with overlapping strips of packing tape, sticky side facing inward. Make sure the strips of tape overlap enough to cover the entire cut-out section of the pumpkin. This works just like contact paper and creates a sticky surface for your kids to decorate with pom poms, sequins, leaves, or whatever you have on hand. It’s an easy and convenient option you probably already have at home!

Alternative Ways to Use the Pumpkin Outline

There are plenty of other fun ways to use the pumpkin outline if you don’t have contact paper or want to try a simpler version of the craft. Here are a few ideas:

  • Coloring Activity: You can print out the pumpkin outline and let your kids color it in with crayons, markers, or colored pencils. This is a quick and easy way to enjoy the pumpkin-themed craft without needing extra materials.
  • Decorating with Stickers: If you have stickers on hand, kids can stick them all over the pumpkin to decorate it in their own style. This is a mess-free option that still allows them to be creative.
  • Collage Craft: Instead of using contact paper, let your child glue on different craft materials like tissue paper, pom poms, or glitter directly onto the pumpkin. You could even make it a sensory activity by using textured items like cotton balls or fabric scraps.

These alternatives make the pumpkin outline versatile and perfect for kids of all ages to enjoy!

Whats included in the download
